Sends and UnionPay International launch global cooperation across card issuing and acquiring

At Sends, we are pleased to announce the launch of our cooperation with UnionPay International (UPI), expanding our payment capabilities across both card issuing and acquiring.

By combining UnionPay’s extensive global payment network with Sends’ financial infrastructure, we aim to create broader payment opportunities for both consumers and businesses across international markets.

As part of this cooperation, we plan to develop UnionPay card issuing capabilities, enabling our customers to access UnionPay-powered payment products and use their cards across UnionPay’s global acceptance network.

At the same time, we are working with UnionPay International to develop acquiring capabilities within the Sends ecosystem. This will enable our merchants to accept payments made with UnionPay cards, giving businesses more opportunities to serve international customers, particularly those connected to Asian markets, while expanding the range of payment methods available through Sends.

Together, issuing and acquiring will allow us to build a two-sided payment proposition: helping our customers make payments internationally while enabling merchants to accept UnionPay transactions through Sends’ infrastructure.

“Payments are becoming increasingly global, while customers and businesses expect the experience itself to remain simple. Our cooperation with UnionPay International is an important step in building infrastructure that connects these two realities,” said Alona Shevtsova, CEO of Sends. “By developing both UnionPay issuing and acquiring capabilities, we are expanding what Sends can offer on both sides of a transaction — giving our customers greater payment flexibility while helping merchants reach a broader international audience.”

This cooperation is another step in our broader strategy to build an interconnected financial ecosystem for businesses and individuals. Rather than focusing on standalone payment products, we continue to expand our infrastructure across accounts, international transfers, foreign exchange, cards and payment acceptance — bringing more financial services together within the Sends ecosystem.

Autumn has a way of making things feel like they need a partner. Shorter days call for good company, warm drinks call for good conversation — and, as it turns out, your business's GBP payment account could use a partner too.
